Today was my daughter’s dance studio showcase. All of the competition dances for the season take the stage for the first time. She performed the dances she already at Tremaine in Orlando in November. She also performed her solo for the first time before an audience.
We got all of her costume bags ready to go in the morning, then did her hair and makeup. She’s worn an orange ribbon on her company jacket since last February. She wanted to add one to her solo costume, to honor Jaime.
She did an amazing job. Even though her solo was an upbeat, funky jazz routine, I got teary-eyed watching her on stage. I love to watch her dance, but seeing her with the orange ribbon, knowing it’s for Jaime who is dancing in heaven, just made me so sad.
During the intermission, I texted Jaime’s mom and messaged one of Meadow’s cousins on Twitter. I wanted to let them know I’d like to see the girls, and to make sure it would be ok. Both said yes. I thanked them, and said that I planned to go the next day.
All of her dances look beautiful. I can’t wait to see her dance her heart out all season.
