I went to Pulse today. I live three hours away & have never been. As a gun violence survivor and LGBTQ parent, it was more important than ever to go, pay my respects and be there with my daughter.
I went to the little merchandise kiosk and got shirts for both of us. The woman working there asked us where we were visiting from. I told her I teach at MSD and her face changed. We talked a little about things there, and I told her it was even more important to be here. She said that this memorial will remain permanent and a museum will be opening up the block.
I wish it hadn’t taken me five years to get here, but I’m glad I went. I’ll be back.
