Today was the first day of school. I began year 18, which is still incredibly hard to believe. I don’t know where the time has gone, honestly.
I slept really well last night & I actually woke up when my alarm went off. Right before leaving, I took first day pictures of my children, who started 5th and 8th grades today. My son came with me, as he has for the past two years.
We got up to my classroom and I finalized things for today. I had some current and former students come to visit, which was nice. Then the bell rang to begin first period.
I saw periods 1-4 today, which were two sections of Journalism 1, planning & yearbook.
About 30 minutes into first period, Fergie, Sophie & Emma came by. It was honestly the best thing… I told the dog moms that this was shaping up to be the best first day ever. The students were thrilled that they were there. It was just so precious.
The dogs and their moms stayed with me during 1st and 2nd period; I have planning during 2nd, so I didn’t mind the company.
I usually have a room full of students during lunch. I was actually all alone today, which was nice. I got to listen to MSNBC on SiriusXM and just sit in the silence… I know it won’t always be that way.
I really liked my students & had a great first day. I’m hopeful & optimistic that this is going to be a great year. After the struggles of last year, I could certainly use it.
Both of my kids had a great day, too. My son is in his last year of middle school and is enrolled in three high school courses; he really likes all of his teachers, and is happy to have classes with friends. My daughter loves her teacher and has the same kids with her from last year.
Day 1 was a win for all of the Lerners.
