I had the opportunity to work with Steven & William Ladd today. They came in to create art with me and my students. I met them in the office, and was greeted by big smiles and even bigger hugs. I told them how excited I was to meet them and have them at MSD; they told me how excited they were to meet me.
They set up the project items in my classroom and made it look more like an art studio than a traditional space. They had materials and textiles spread out for the students to choose from. As the students came, the Ladd Brothers introduced themselves, explained the others they brought along for the Scrollathon, and got the kids right to work.
This is my scroll:
They came to Coral Springs/Parkland area on a grant with the Bloomberg Foundation. They’re going to work with 1,000 people to create scrolls that will be placed in boxes (see below), and put together to become a 7 foot by 5 foot art installation.
I was connected with the Ladd Brothers through my aunt. Her childhood friend Isabel is married to the Ladd’s gallerist, Christina. When Christina found out that I’m Janet’s niece and I teach at MSD, she contacted me to get involved with the project. It’s been months in the making, but I’m so glad I was able to meet them and take part.
